The Phenomenon of Migration as

a Special Female Matter

- a Responsibility

for all European Citizens

Second Symposium of “Women’s Vision”, Pax Romana / Europe
Cluj / Romania, Hotel AGAPE   -   2nd to 4th of July, 2010

“Women’s Vision”, Pax Romana / Europe, was founded in Prague in 2006. There it was agreed that there shall be a symposium arranged every other year. Its topic may focus on women matters currently relevant and important to discuss and to draw consequences from.

The first symposium took place in Celje / Slovenia in January 2008 and assembled 35 participants from 14 European countries. The theme considered was “The Struggle for Gender Equality in Europe – a Story of Success and Ignorance”.

Since migration has become a crucial question for all European countries, no matter whether they favour or fight this fact, whether they call it a blessing or a curse – or regard it as something normal, every citizen gets confronted with it and is involved in some way. This is why all federations and friends all over Europe are invited to take part in this year’s symposium organized in Cluj / Romania in July 2010.

In order to prepare this symposium at home, there is a questionnaire which should be discussed in advance. The answers can be sent back to the co-ordinator and / or brought with for discussion during the opening session of the symposium.

Q u e s t i o n n a i r e

  1. Does your country accept migrants? Where do the majority of them come from?
  2. Why do people leave your / their home country? - Name the main reasons you have come across.
  3. How do they arrive in your / the country of their choice?
  4. Where and in which way are they received by the local / regional governments and by the natives?
  5. Who make up the bulk of migrants (men, women, children, families,…)?
  6. Where do they “settle”? With whom do they mix?
  7. Are they interested in becoming citizens of the country they have arrived? Do they want to stay there for good or just for some time?
  8. What do terms like “integration” and “assimilation” evoke? Do migrants deal     with them or do they dread them?
  9. Do they plan to go somewhere else from where they initially arrived? Do they    plan to return to their home countries?
  10.  Who cares for their well being? In what way do churches, NGOs, other groups, individuals (idealists) get involved? Or are they left to policy and political institutions?
  11.  Have you ever had a chance of dealing with migrants? What are your experiences?
  12. What do you expect from this symposium: any help or just information, or some new insight or impulse for dealing with migration? Other “results”?
