The Internship Programme

What we do

Activities At The International Level 2006-2007

Responsabilities of Pax Romana International:

  • Internal animation andcoordination of the movement, federations, representatives to international organizations, specialized secretariats, working groups, regional coordinators and members of the Council;
  • Internal and external communication (permanent interrelation and dialogue, circulars, website, E-Newsletter and E-Covergence) and networking;
  • Representation and institutional relations;
  • Management of the organization and projects management;
  • Organization of the sessions of the International Council and Plenary Assembly;
  • Strategic Reflection process.

Together to all of it, some important activities and projects are organized. During 2006 -2007:

 

ADVOCACY AND LOBBY WORK FOR THE PROMOTION AND PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND SOCIAL TEACHING OF THE CHURCH AT UNITED NATIONS

  • Representation at the United Nations (New York, Geneva, Vienna, Nairobi), UNESCO, UN Habitat, Council of Europe, European Union and African Commission on Human and PeoplesÕ Rights.
  • Active Participation in the UN Human Rights Council, (Geneva, 2005-2009) and African Commission on Human and PeoplesÕ Rights (2005-2008), Europe-Africa Summit (Lisbon, 2007).
  • Fighting Poverty and Corruption in West Africa (Benin, 2005).
  • Annual Symposium on Jurists and Human Rights ÒAssessment of the Commission on Human Rights and Challenges for the Human Rights Council: Jurist Catholic PerspectiveÓ (Geneva 2006).
  • Millennium Development Goals Achievement in Southern Africa (Zambia, 2007).
  • The Struggle for Gender Equality in Europe-A Story of Success and Ignorance (Slovenia, 2008).
  • Annual New York Symposium on Catholic Social Teaching and the United Nations (New York, 2006, 2007, 2008).
  • Durban Review Conference with the focus on Dalit Human Rights (Geneva, 2009).
  • Long-term Human Rights Internship Programme in collaboration with National Campaign for Dalit Human Rights (NCDHR) and St. Thomas University in Miami, US (Geneva, January-September 2006 and 2008)

  • Formation: Workshop for Young People in Latin America, Andean Subregion "Young Professionals being committed with Human Development and Poverty" (Lima, Perœ, or Ecuador, October 2006)
  • World Social Forum: Forum Discussion on Global Ethics, Global Governance and the Place of Africa (Nairobi, Kenya, January 2007)
  • International Congress on Global Governance: Africa as A Symbol and Reality (Nairobi, Kenya, July 2008)

  • Formation: Intercultural/Inter-religious Internship Programme (2005-2007)
  • 60th Anniversary of Pax Romana ICMICA/MIIC: The Holy See: A face of Another Globalization (Rome 2007).
  • Regional Workshop on Intercultural and Inter-religious Dialogue in Africa (Ghana-2007, Burundi -2008).
  • Human Rights Internship Programme (twice a year since 1999-2009)
  • University Student Internship at UN (New York, 2006-2009).
  • Exchange Programme of Young Leaders in Africa and Europe (Madrid, Bilbao, Brussels 2007).

 

At a global level, ICMICA/MIIC Pax Romana has participated in World Social Forums since the Forum's inception. It continues to organize and co-organize different events for each occasion. In addition ICMICA/MIIC Pax Romana is also involved with:

  • Earth Charter Initiative;
  • UBUNTU-World Forum of Civil Society Networks and the World Campaign for In-Depth Reform of the System of International Institutions, coordinated by UBUNTU;
  • Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP);
  • United Nations Millennium Campaign-No Excuse 2015-Voices against Poverty.

 

PRIORITIES OF INTERNATIONAL TEAM OF ICMICA/MIIC PAX ROMANA 2008-2012

During the 30th Plenary Assembly 2008 the International Team was mandated to include some new priorities into their action plans. Those priorities include:

  • Intercultural & inter-religious dialogue
  • Gender Equality
  • Global Governance
  • Human Rights and Sustainable Human Development
  • Migration
  • South-South Dialogue
  • The Role of the Church
  • Consolidation of the movement.
  • Formation and Training
  • Resource Mobilization

 

 

Pax Romana is currently in the middle of its process of Strategic Reflection and some of the Strategic Guidelines are crystallizing :

  1. Consolidation of an international network of experts and intellectuals in concrete fields, in order to tackle the most important current challanges;
  2. Practical formation of young cadres in lobbying and advocacy in human rights, human and social sustainable development and intercultural and interreligious dialogue;
  3. To prioritize Africa in the works of solidarity and advocacy;
  4. Practical formation of young cadres in lobbying and advocacy in human rights, human and social sustainable development and intercultural and interreligious dialogue;
  5. To prioritize Africa in the works of solidarity and advocacy;
  6. Outstanding and active presence in the United Nations System and other important international institutions and campaigns, specializing in some strategic fields, and to deepen alliances with key actors;
  7. Expansion of the Pax Romana network: to identify and link up with local groups in key places, particularly in Asia and Africa, although in Central & East Europe and Latin America, too, and to promote open networking with other NGOs;
  8. To maximize Pax Romana´s local and international mix and to identify local concerns of global relevance;
  9. Systematization of the public visibility and influence in areas of Church and society, through important own projects and actions, and enhancement of the Pax Romana´s identity of lay-intellectual spirituality;
  10. To bridge Church & civil society and with other cultures and religions;
  11. To direct the financing of Pax Romana;
  12. To reinforce the image and communication of Pax Romana and to develop a quality-management programme for all the movement.
