The Internship Programme

What we do

Pax Romana is a member of the Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in consultative relationship with the UN (CONGO). Pax Romana was the Vice-President of CONGO for the period 2003-2006. Pax Romana is the President of the NGO Committee on Human Rights in Geneva and Co-chair of the NGO Working Group on Human Rights Education and Learning in Geneva.

 

Pax Romana has had consultative status with the United Nations since 1949 through the Economic Social Council (ECOSOC), as well as with UNESCO and the Council of Europe. Pax Romana has permanent representatives at the United Nations offices in New York, Geneva and Vienna. It also has accredited representatives in regional intergovernmental bodies such as the Council of Europe and the African Commission for Human and Peoples' Rights. Pax Romana has been active in many meetings and activities of the UN.

 

ADVOCACY AND LOBBY WORK FOR THE PROMOTION AND PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND SOCIAL TEACHING OF THE CHURCH AT UNITED NATIONS

  • Representation at the United Nations (New York, Geneva, Vienna, Nairobi), UNESCO, UN Habitat, Council of Europe, European Union and African Commission on Human and PeoplesÕ Rights.
  • Active Participation in the UN Human Rights Council, (Geneva, 2005-2009) and African Commission on Human and PeoplesÕ Rights (2005-2008), Europe-Africa Summit (Lisbon, 2007).
  • Fighting Poverty and Corruption in West Africa (Benin, 2005).
  • Annual Symposium on Jurists and Human Rights ÒAssessment of the Commission on Human Rights and Challenges for the Human Rights Council: Jurist Catholic PerspectiveÓ (Geneva 2006).
  • Millennium Development Goals Achievement in Southern Africa (Zambia, 2007).
  • The Struggle for Gender Equality in Europe-A Story of Success and Ignorance (Slovenia, 2008).
  • Annual New York Symposium on Catholic Social Teaching and the United Nations (New York, 2006, 2007, 2008).
  • Durban Review Conference with the focus on Dalit Human Rights (Geneva, 2009).
  • Long-term Human Rights Internship Programme in collaboration with National Campaign for Dalit Human Rights (NCDHR) and St. Thomas University in Miami, US (Geneva, January-September 2006 and 2008)
