5. National follow-up of ICMICA Meetings

Korea

  • KCC-AEC was set-up after the Seoul Forum on the Asian Economic Crisis
  • Two meetings were organized after the synod; one for lay people and one for religious
  • KCWC made a proposal to the Asian Synod at Manila and sent a report to Rome. The women's statement was well taken by religious women in India

Thailand

  • There was organized study/research on the economic crisis
  • Sessions were held with undergraduate students
  • A new pastoral identity was drawn up
  • Efforts were made to speed-up the setting up the women's desk in Thailand
  • The Justice and Peace Commission prepared for the Synod using the lineamenta
  • An event was organized for religious on the economic crisis
  • A petition on debt relief was organized although it received a poor response

Malaysia

  • There was no substantial follow-up to the synod
  • During the economic crisis some parishes set-up referral centers for retrenched workers
  • A national desk for migrant workers was set-up.
