Updated News about Lima Seminars, International Council Meeting, Internship Program in Geneva and others.This issue brings to you several pieces of information on recent global developments and activities in ICMICA .
The Annual International Council Meeting 2002: The two day Council meeting (July 11 and 12) reviewed the present global situation of the Movement and made several policy decisions regarding the plan of action as well as internal issues. They include:
- The International Team and several from the African Federations, including ICMICA Group in South Africa, will represent Pax Romana ICMICA at the Global Forum (Aug. 19 to Sept. 1) and World Summit on Sustainable Development (Aug. 26 to Sept. 4) in Johannesburg, South Africa.
- World Social Forum III in Porto Alegre, Brazil (Jan. 23 to 28, 2003) will be given priority in terms of building coalitions in global civil society. www.worldsocialforum.org
- ICMICA Africa was reaffirmed as a continent requiring priority in terms of global support.
- The next Council meeting 2003 will take place in Africa.
- ACMICA – ICMICA Federation in Australia was congratulated on its revival. For more about ACMICA, visit www.acmica.org.
- The candidature of Fr Etienne Trialille S.J. as ICMICA Africa Chaplain was confirmed. Congratulations. triailleet@insightkenya.com
The Latin America Seminar (July 6 - 7) and International Seminar (July 8 – 10) on Sustainable Human Rights Development took place in Lima prior to the Council meeting. They were part of ICMICA preparation for the WSSD. The Lima Declaration will be available soon both in Spanish and English at our web-site. The synthesis document is being prepared, taking into account three regional workshops – Nairobi for Africa and Bali for Asia/Pacific. Human Rights Internship Program in Geneva started on July 22 with 8 interns from South Africa, Sudan, Kenya, D.R. Congo, Rwanda, India and USA. It will continue till Aug. 19 throughout the 54th Session of the UN Sub-Commission on Human Rights. The next Internship program will take place in Geneva in March and April 2002. Application form is available upon request and at our web-site soon.

Obituary
Mr Maxim ADJATE, member of IYCS African Secretariat based in Nairobi, passed away on July 4, 2002 due to internal bleeding on his way to Brazzaville, Congo to facilitate the study session.
