2009 Pax Romana International Conference

TOWARD A NEW PARADIGM, SUSTAINABLE HUMAN DEVELOPMENT: WHAT PERSPECTIVES?

At Sanata Dharma University Yogyakarta, Indonesia, 20 to 22 of July 2009

Advocacy Training for Poverty Eradication

The International Catholic Movement for Intellectual and Cultural Affairs, Pax Romana ICMICA, has been involved in the worldwide debate on sustainable development, human rights and poverty eradication. Last year, Pax Romana ICMICA joined the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Campaign and met other African stakeholders in Nairobi during the African Forum for the Global Call for Action against Poverty (GCAP).

The focus of Pax Romana in this campaign is to press for the MDGs to become a reality for marginalized communities in Africa.

The current training is meant to contribute to strengthening the capacity of selected national branches of Pax Romana ICMICA involved in the MDG campaign in Africa.

The programme will be held in Kampala, Uganda on the 3rd to the 5th of February 2006.

TRAINING WORKSHOP ON MDG CAMPAIGN: “Making the Millennium Development Goals a Reality for Africa’s Marginalized Communities”.

Theme: Advocacy Training for Poverty Eradication
Dates: 3-5 February 2006
Venue: Green Valley Hotel, Kampala, Uganda (towards Munyonyo Beach, Off Ggaba Road)
Host: Catholic Professionals of Uganda (CAPU) – Pax Romana
Participants (20) from 7 countries:

  • East Africa: Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda
  • Central Africa: Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Cameroon and Republic of Congo
  • West Africa: Benin

Background

Aim

Objectives

  • To train 20 young professionals on research and advocacy skills related to economic and social issues;
  • To provide to participants from various countries a space for experience sharing in the fight against poverty in Africa.
