Pax Romana Catalunya Declaration

In view of the current social and political situation that is happening in Catalonia, the entities that are part of PAX ROMANA Catalonia want to express:

1. Our concern and total rejection of the violent police actions of October 1, as well as the condemnation of the legal and criminal prosecution of persons and entities due to political ideology; in particular our condemnation to the imprisonment of social leaders, which have occurred in recent days, for these reasons.

2. Our firm commitment to the defense of human rights and basic freedoms such as ideological freedom, expression and political and secret political participation, which must be safeguarded by legality and the rule of law.

3. Our claim that we are faced with a conflict of a political nature and, therefore, can only be resolved through channels and political agreements, on the basis of a serene and sincere dialogue, without conditions or exclusions, respecting Democracy and the rights of citizens and peoples.

4. It is imperative that the institutions of the Catalunya Generalitat, the Parliament, their respective leaders and political representatives must be respected. It is in these institutions where the representation and democratic will of the people of Catalonia has been deposited in the exercise of their right to self-government. Without this representation and inter-locution, a dialogue and legitimate departure to the conflict will be impossible.

Finally, before the decision of the Spanish government to initiate the process of suspension of self-government of Catalonia through the art 155 of the Spanish Constitution, we express our opposition to this action and reiterate our total support to the Catalan institutions that must be preserved.
