Giving back the Word to God’s people

Pope Francis in his recent Apostolic Letter “Aperuit illis” says in clear terms : « The Bible cannot be the heritage of just a few, and even less a collection of books for a privileged few. It belongs, in the first place, to the people who are called to listen to it and recognize themselves in that Word. There are often tendencies that try to monopolize the sacred text by relegating it to certain circles or selected groups. This cannot be so. »
« Pastors have a great responsibility to allow everyone to understand Holy Scripture. Since it is the people’s book, they must feel strongly the need to make it accessible to their community. »
In this reflection, based on his experience in the biblical animation of pastoral ministry, Fernando Gonzalez will try to set out the challenges – needs and possibilities – that it implies today for believers and communities to welcome the Scriptures as the living Word of God in the midst of the society and culture of our time.
