The Kenya Movement of Catholic Professionals which is the local federation of Pax Romana ICMICA in Kenya embarked on an ambitious plan to re-energize the Catholic Professionals in the church two years ago. To this several steps have been put in place to ensure active participation of the professionals in the church.

KMCP has been training professionals in the Dioceses and Parishes on Catholic Social Though while relating the same to the challenges facing the local church. So far several dioceses have been reached with kind support from Missio Austria and the contributions from the members.
The latest Diocese to be trained was Bungoma Diocese between the 13th – 16th March 2014 at the St. Patrick’s Pastoral Centre – Kabula.
The training had two twin objectives to popularize Catholic Social Teachings with special focus on the challenges facing the church in Bungoma Diocese and to recruit members to the Kenya Movement of Catholic Professionals in the Diocese.
Participants were drawn from the 32 Parishes of the Diocese and facilitated by the National Office of KMCP jointly with the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission of the diocese. Among the participants were teachers, nurses, lawyers, farmers among other professions. Notable among the participants was Hon. Sylvester Wakoli Bifwoli a one-time member of the national assembly, who is active in Kenyan politics.
In his contribution during the plenary session, Hon. Wakoli wondered if KMCP needs to strategize to carry Catechism afresh for its members and professionals at large to help mitigate the challenges facing the Church today. Many professionals said there is a lot within their ability and said that only leadership was needed to help them transform the image of the church today. They were further challenged to move a step further in supporting the church in Bungoma especially in light of the many financial challenges the church faces in trying to expend its infrastructure.
The Diocesan Secretary Rev. Fr. Edward Odongo who celebrated mass during the official opening of this event also reminded the professionals to be custodians of Human Rights in the church, watching over the rest of the Christians to ensure that everyone performs his duty and everyone is accorded what is rightly theres. He reminded the professionals to share with those in need more especially being in the duration of lent.
The National Chairman led the delegates in inaugurating a chapter of KMCP in the Diocese under the interim leadership of Mr. Odalla of Kisoko Parish. The Diocesan Catholic Justice and Peace Commission (CJPC) agreed to host KMCP in the diocese pending funding harmonization of structures in the diocese.
