In October 2021, Pope Francis convoked the synod on synodality and invited the whole Church to reflect on the construction of a synodal Church, in communion, participation and mission”. Synodality – a new term – identifies the Church, made up of all the baptized – the People of God on the way to the building of the Kingdom and therefore involves both the internal life of the Church and the commitment to the most impoverished, forgotten and discarded. It emphasizes the equal dignity of all Christians and affirms their co-responsibility in the evangelizing mission.

It urges the whole Church People of God to walk together as missionary disciples and to continue the call to the renewal of the Church proposed by the Second Vatican Council and to fulfill its mission in the societies where it is inserted. In particular, to build an inclusive Church that addresses the needs of marginalized and vulnerable groups in the peripheries, including the existential ones. The synodal process is crucial for the life and mission of the Church. The Catholic professionals and intellectuals linked to Pax Romana have recognized ourselves in the proposals of Francis and consider that we can and must contribute to the construction of a synodal Church. Therefore, we have made several efforts to heed this call.
